About Me

"He's not going to fight me," Benavidez added. "I think he's just running out of things to say. He's literally said every excuse. He said that I only bring 25 pounds in and I'm not nothing. I'm this and that. I'm not dedicated, I'm not respectful.

On "family night" at the CW, when parents supported a few dreams with donations and attendance for a few fights, Bud busted through the doors with shoddy training gear ready to fight. Bernie and the others looked like they’d seen a ghost. Thinking he’d never show, Bernie fought in his place. Bud would have to wait. He came back a few days later, started training, beat up the tough Mexican and never looked back.

Round 1: Here we go. Big-time stakes here for Anderson, who’s being touted as the future of American heavyweight boxing. Tonight is by far his toughest test. This is for the WBO international heavyweight title. They touch ‘em up and we’re off. Bakole comes out swinging. He’s so much larger than Anderson. Anderson pumps out his jab. Bakole looks like he’s giving Anderson no respect. Bakole staying stationary while planting his feet and loading up. Anderson punches repeatedly to the body. Two-punch combination lands upstairs for Anderson. To call Bakole a stationary target would be an understatement. So far Anderson is dancing around him and continually working the body. Huge left hook followed by a right uppercut for Bakole! He swarms him and down goes Anderson!!! WOW! That gigantic man was just timing his shot the entire time — and BAM, he landed it at the bell. Anderson is back up, but that was rough. MMA Fighting scores it 10-8 Bakole.

Fighting for the first time as a professional in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska, Crawford made his first title defense against 2004 Cuban Olympic gold medalist and former IBF featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa. This was only the second title fight ever held in Omaha, the first being in 1972, when heavyweight champion Joe Frazier defeated the Omaha/Council Bluffs product Ron Stander by fourth-round TKO. Gamboa entered having not fought in over a year. The fight was announced on May 6 and took place at the CenturyLink Center on June 28, 2014. Crawford weighed in 134.8 pounds, slightly heavier than Gamboa at 134.4 pounds.

Round 1: What’s up, y’all? We are rolling with this loaded pay-per-view main card. Cruz and Moran kicking us off for the IBF international lightweight title. This is Cruz’s fourth professional fight. Let’s do it. Moran comes out firing jabs to the head and body. Cruz sticks out a long jab onto Moran’s face in response. Cruz claiming the center of the ring early. Cruz connects solidly with a series of straight punches to the body. Three-punch combination for Cruz. He slips a right hand through the guard. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Cruz.

Bud needed that environment in his days preparing for Errol. Mixing the youth of boxers from the Army in one corner, to rising stars like Keyshawn Davis and Shakur Stevenson in another, kept the gym flowing with active bodies. On any given night that summer, there could be 50-60 pugs hammering away on the heavy bags or dancing around the cerulean rings.

"If he was to get beat in his next fight, that would be a disaster for him, but at the same time, he’s made a lot of money and he only wants a certain amount of money to fight, and he can only make that kind of money if it’s a tough fight. And a lot of these guys don’t want to take smaller money for the right fight."

Other main draws in boxing, like Bud’s homie, Shakur Stevenson, have noticed Bud’s annoyance with boxing’s idiosyncrasies. It’s difficult for them, too, seeing the top talent in their sport overlooked.

After much rigmarole and a round of discussions, the WBO welterweight champ, Terence Crawford, is finally set to make his comeback to the game. He will step inside the squared circle on October 23 against an undisclosed opponent. Moreover, his return fight will take place on ESPN.

Crawford starting to time Porter’s lunges better, landing more upper cuts when he does that move. Crawford being patient and utilizing his jab more than in early rounds. Porter doing what he usually does, staying aggressive. Great fight so far.

The best boxer of his era is Terence "Bud" Crawford. That’s clear now, without question. He belongs among the greats. The only thing left to ponder with Crawford now is: Why didn’t we believe him all along?
